Super Bowl LV Prop Betting: Yes, You Can Bet On The Gatorade And More

-

The Super Bowl is just days away now, and with the big game comes plenty of exclusive prop bets that you wouldn’t normally be able to bet on for just about any other event. One of the biggest fan-favorite bets during this special time of the season is the “exotic” prop bet. More or less, these bets are just designed for the everyday guy to have some fun wagering on sports where it doesn’t require tons of critical thought and insight to make a winning bet. In other words, you don’t have to be a “sharp” bettor with these.

Some of the more popular exotic prop bets include the coin toss and, of course, what color will the Gatorade be that gets poured over the winning coaches head at the end of the game. That is the title of this article, but we will also discuss the coin toss, and give you a bit of an explanation and argument for each bet.

Currently, here’s how the odds stack up for the Gatorade color sweepstakes:

Regular fans will think that the game is over when the clock hits zero, but there will be many of us who will be sweating which color gets dumped on either Andy Reid or Bruce Arians at the end of the game. Orange is currently the favorite as it stands and is pulling in about 30% of the total money.

Why Is Orange So Popular?

There is a good reason why orange is the most popular bet here. First of all, at the conclusion of Super Bowl LIV last year, the Kansas City Chiefs players dumped orange Gatorade on head coach Andy Reid’s head. Every sharp bettor you will find out there is always looking for trends or anything he can get his eyes on that will give him an edge, and this is what’s going to be talked about a lot this week. Orange closed at +400 last year for several sportsbooks, but this year it is the huge favorite at +125.

The second reason people will be taking a big gulp out of orange is pretty simplistic when you just look at what the facts and history have to say. 5 out of the last 11 Super Bowls have ended with an orange bath at the end of them. The only other color to appear more than once in that timespan was blue, which was used by the Patriots both times. Could blue be Tom Brady’s flavor of choice should the Bucs win?

The Classic Yellow Has Been Getting Love As Well

Yellow is the original color of Gatorade and a classic. The last time we saw the lime-flavored drink it was being poured on former Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson after the Eagles’ improbable win over Brady and the Patriots. Many bettors are going with the classic color for nostalgia, but also to move away from the massive chalk that is on orange.

There is a case to be made for the OG color. For one, teams may be concerned about image in this day and age of COVID. Having a classic color like yellow may make the public feel like they are back in the days before all of the craziness of this pandemic. It’s obviously just a longshot thought, but some do have it. Others say that they would want their color to be yellow or clear because they wouldn’t want a deep color like orange, blue or purple staining players’ mouths and teeth on national television with the biggest audience of all time. Of course, this hasn’t stopped them in previous years.

Pick The Color Close To Your Heart

When it’s all said and done, you should really just pick the color you like the most. That’s what I’m going to be doing this coming Sunday, which means I’m riding the underdog train.  My favorite color is blue, so I should be in everyone’s thoughts and prayers on this one. I think I have a pretty decent shot though. What if Brady just loves blue as I do? If the Bucs win, I wouldn’t be surprised to see it make a return.

The Coin Toss

Look, you can really dive into it here and think about wind direction and the strength of the person tossing and so on. But here is a fact: People say tails never fails. There you go, you have a winner. Seriously though, tails do win 53% of the time while heads win 47% of the time. Heads have won 25 times and tails has won 29. The longest streak, however, belongs to heads, who once won 5 straight Super Bowls. Someone is so confident in heads here, that they placed a massive wager on the coin toss:

Whoever had the cash to bet $5,000 on a single coin toss, you could have done so much more with that money. But alas, it was most certainly a millionaire who wouldn’t take the time to bend over to pick up a $100 bill off the ground.

In the end, gravity will decide his fate, as will it ours. I like to pick heads whenever I’ve had to choose, so that’s how I’m rolling.

Two underdogs, one big hole in my pocket. Probably.
