Bettor Won $100k On Max Homa’s Genesis Invitational Victory

-

There is no sweat like a golf sweat when it comes to sports betting, and that’s because the payouts for outright victories can be massive. When Max Homa, a 70-1 longshot to win the 2021 Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club, took out Tony Finau in a playoff scenario last Sunday he won some bettors big-time money. This was the second win in his PGA Tour career, and it was a very special moment for the outspoken golfer. Homa has always been a very active Twitter user and voices his opinions quite often on the platform while interacting with fans and posting hilarious re-tweets. At +7000, the Los Angeles native was a pretty large underdog to take home the win at most sportsbooks.

High Risk, High Reward

Homa took home a nice chunk of change himself, earning $1.674 million from a $9.3 million total purse. He wasn’t the only one to win big this past Sunday. One bettor was so confident in Homa’s chances of taking home the win that he placed three very large wagers on the pro before the event even started, getting plus-money on each bet. BetQL lists the details below of the three separate bets and how much was placed on each below, per Patrick Eichner of PointsBet Sportsbook.

Sweating It Out

Taking home a total of $101,000 on a longshot bet can be attributed to luck of course, or maybe he read my article last week where I detailed why I thought Homa had a very good chance to compete in this tournament. Either way, he was able to cash in a big payday after the event, as was I, just much less than $100k.

Of course, the win didn’t come without a nice sweat on Homa’s come from behind triumph. A missed putt on Hole 18 probably sent this man into cardiac arrest for a brief moment before he was able to emphatically celebrate his huge victory.

A Phenomenal Win, Another Tough Loss

This win perfectly sums up what golf betting is all about. The emotions of the final hole, and coming down to the wire where thousands of dollars may be on the line. Things really could have gone either way towards the end, but this man was obviously ecstatic with his big win. As for Homa’s opponent in the playoff, Tony Finau unfortunately once again could not cross the finish line first. It has been the narrative with Finau that he can’t win an event. There have been many top-10 and top-20 finishes, but he can’t seem to actually come out on top.

While it was another disappointing outing for Finau, he certainly is someone to watch every single time out, as he is consistently towards the top of the standings. He will win his first one soon, it’s just picking when.

This was Homa’s day, however, and he couldn’t wait to shake Tiger Woods’ hand after the win. Woods would be involved in a serious car accident just days after congratulating Homa on the win. Let us all keep Tiger in our thoughts and prayers as he recovers from some serious injuries.

Get well soon, Mr. Woods.
