The White Sox Top Prospect That Everyone Is Forgetting About

As Spring Training kicks off, much will be made about White Sox top prospects Yoan Moncada, Lucas Giolito and others. But this forgotten prospect could end up having the biggest 2017 impact. (Photo courtesy of MLB)

As White Sox begin Spring Training, most eyes will be glued to the teams newest top prospects. Yoan Moncada, Lucas Giolito, Michael Kopech and Reynaldo Lopez all bring something special that will draw in most fans and reporters.

Moncada brings an impressive mix of speed and power. As the crown jewel of the Chris Sale trade, most will be watching to see if he can live up to his potential. Giolito was once ranked as the best pitching prospect in the game. While he was derailed by injuries, Spring Training gives Giolito a chance to prove he is still one of the best pitching prospects in the game. Kopech is known for his fastball, reportedly hitting 105 on the radar gun last season. Fans will be excited to finally get a look at the flamethrower and see that fastball in action. Lopez hasn’t received as much hype as the aforementioned three. Spring Training allows him an opportunity to show that he is a future ace on this White Sox team.

Outside of those four, the team has prospects in Zack Collins and Carson Fulmer who are just as integral to the team’s rebuild. Watching them face MLB pitching/hitting will be crucial when attempting to decipher their MLB potential.

Besides prospects, the White Sox have a lot to be excited about during Spring Training. Fans will get to see veterans such as Jose Quintana, Todd Frazier and David Robertson. As trade talks remain ongoing for all three, there’s a chance Spring Training is the last time they don a White Sox uniform. Fans will also get to see the development of rising stars Tim Anderson and Carlos Rodon as they look to become leaders on this young White Sox team.

The 2017 season may not be too bright for the White Sox, but the team has a lot to offer during Spring Training. With so much to watch, it’s easy for some players to go unnoticed.

One of those players is outfielder Rymer Liriano.

Liriano appeared in 38 major league games with the Padres in 2014. He hit .220 with one home run, six RBIs and four stolen bases. In 738 minor league games over seven seasons, Liriano hit .277 with 68 home runs, 378 RBIs and 190 stolen bases.

The White Sox claimed Liriano off waivers from the Brewers earlier in the offseason. While he hasn’t received the hype of a Moncada or Kopech, he offers a few traits that could make him a prospect to watch in 2017.

Kris Bryant Getting Pranked By Greg Maddux During His New Commercial Is Just As Hilarious As It Sounds

Kris Bryant just received a dose of his own medicine.

During Spring Training of last year, Bryant pranked the entire Mesa Community College baseball team when he arrived disguised as a “European transfer student” named Roy. He strolled into practice and hopped in the box to take some BP and started hitting moonshots much to the amazement of the Mesa players.

Now the shoe is on the other foot.

During his new Red Bull commercial, Bryant was hilariously pranked by former Cub, and Hall of Famer, Greg Maddux.

How A Pissed Off Fantasy Owner Sparked Jordan Howard’s Epic Halloween Game

jordan howard

Jordan Howard is fast becoming the next great hero for Chicago Bears fans. People love an underdog and he fits the bill perfect. For the first time in the Super Bowl era the Bears have a Pro Bowl running back who didn’t come from the first two rounds of a draft. A lonely late rounder was he, destined for backup duty behind the heir apparent to Matt Forte in Jeremy Langford.

Fast forward to the end of the season and the script has flipped. He’s making it seem like Forte was never on the roster, finishing second in the NFL in rushing with 1,313 yards. The fact he did so without starting the first three games of the season makes it an even more remarkable feat. Not to mention a testament to his talent, drive and work ethic.

Since then people have wanted to learn more about him. He easily has one of the more inspiring stories in recent memory, but what of his experience as a rookie? Turns around there are some titillating tales, including one that will absolutely leave Bears fans in stitches.

One Of The Best Things About The White Sox Rebuild Is Something Between The Lines

With Spring Training finally upon us, there will be no shortage of stories across the league. Which prospects will make the biggest impact in camp? What position battles will be the most interesting to keep an eye on? Can the Cubs repeat? Will the Indians suffer a World Series hangover, or come out of the gates firing?

These are just a handful of stories that MLB fans across the nation will be tuning into. One that Chicagoans in particular will be eager to hear about is what the future holds for the White Sox. After two blockbuster deals done already, fans of the team are waiting for more A-list assets to be traded, and a plethora of A-list prospects in return. It is no secret that the White Sox are going to have a boatload of young talent in their farm system when the waters have calmed and all the trades have been completed. With luck, the team on the South Side should be contending for a World Series within the next 3-5 years. However, perhaps the best asset that the White Sox will have on their side during this rebuild isn’t a future prospect or manager at all.

It is the timing.

As of today, the A.L. Central is probably the weakest division in all of baseball. There are the Cleveland Indians… and everybody else. Cleveland is without question the cream of the division crop and should have no trouble whatsoever repeating as division champs in 2017. After that, things get pretty terrible.

The Detroit Tigers maybe have a shot at a Wild Card, but I would be shocked to see them make the playoffs. They are somewhat stuck in the middle as of now. Not good enough to really be any type of postseason threat, but not bad enough to tank or be in a position to trade any of their assets. Definitely not the best position to be in.

For the Kansas City Royals, 2017 could very well be the last year they have a chance at a World Series run. After this season, Eric Hosmer, Lorenzo Cain, Mike Moustakas, and Alciedes Escobar will all be free agents. AKA, their entire core. That’s not even counting the fact that the Royals have also lost Wade Davis, and tragically, Yorando Ventura. Depending on how hot or cold the Royals start, we could very well see them blow up the team at the deadline, strengthen their farm, and start building another young core.

Minnesota is currently horrible, perhaps even more so than the White Sox. However, unlike the Tigers and Royals, they have some young talent in the MLB already, (emphasis on Byron Buxton) and 4 prospects currently in the top 100 according to MLB.com. However, while they may take a solid step forward in the next couple years, they still do not have enough of that young talent to build around as of today.

Which leads us to the White Sox. By the time the South Side is finally ready to compete, the division may be wide open for them to take by the throat. Although Cleveland is a phenomenal team right now, it is incredibly hard to keep a championship caliber roster around for an extended period of time. Just ask Kansas City. Players become too expensive, injuries happen, and age starts to factor in.

Then there is Kansas City and Detroit, who may be in full blown rebuilds themselves a couple years down the road. And finally, there is Minnesota, who I think will be in the good-not-great category come 2019. Could they maybe compete for a Wild Card? Absolutely, but as far as having enough to win the division, I personally do not see it unless they can bring in some additional young talent to round out their roster.

The influx of young talent that the White Sox have been getting, and will continue to get, is obviously going to get all of the attention. Rightfully so. However, when the Sox are finally ready to compete for a World Series, don’t be surprised to see the A.L. Central in another state of mediocrity. Right now, Cleveland’s path to the playoffs is nothing short of a cakewalk. Don’t be surprised if the White Sox find themselves in a similar position in the not-so-distant future.

The Most Frightening Chicago Bears Quarterback Prediction Yet

chicago bears

It’s still only February and the Chicago Bears have already been party to several quarterback rumors. Some involve what will happen to their current slate of names from 2016. Will Jay Cutler be cut or traded? Brian Hoyer and Matt Barkley will both be free agents. Their returns are questionable at this point. Then of course there is the far more interesting question.

Who will be their guy in 2017 and beyond? Oh the list of names is pretty substantial. New England backup Jimmy Garoppolo tops the list at present, while prominent college prospects Mitch Trubisky and DeShone Kizer are becoming the hot names on the draft market. One must also not discount “other” backup A.J. McCarron or the murky situation with Tyrod Taylor in Buffalo.

Those are all reasonably intriguing scenarios that Bears fans could at least be interested. What nobody has wanted to discuss is the possibility of the team doing something that doesn’t exactly garner universal praise. Something short-sighted and against basic logic. Or at the very least inadvisable.

Explosive Athlete Rising Up Draft Boards Would Fill Immediate Need For Bears

Jonathan Allen, Mitch Trubisky and Jamal Adams are all common names that have been frequently attached to the possibility of getting selected by the Bears with the third overall pick. Malik Hooker is another intriguing name but has seemingly fallen out of Chicago’s range recovering from surgery.

Ironically enough though, there’s another player out there that nobody has really attached to the Bears yet and I’m not sure why. He’s a red shirt sophomore considered an “uber athlete” and is unanimously voted the best player at his position in this draft class. He played for an elite school, an elite head coach and his draft profile directly compares him to a two-time Pro Bowler.

Do you know who I am referring to? (picture above should have given it away)

WATCH: Antoine Vermette Suspended For Heinous Slash On Official

Antoine Vermette isn’t known around the league for being a bad guy but he crossed the line last night. After he took the drop he proceeded to take a chop at the back of the linesman’s leg.

It doesn’t matter what may have been going between the two or what was said, it was unprovoked. This is not the same as two players mixing it up and someone taking a whack. Anyone who has played any sports knows better, no matter what sport or what league, you never touch an official.

As a result of his disgusting display he has  received a category II suspension as outlined below.

40.3 Automatic Suspension – Category II – Any player or goalkeeper who deliberately applies physical force to an official in any manner (excluding actions as set out in Category I), which physical force is applied without intent to injure, shall be automatically suspended for not less than ten (10) games.

This is an automatic 10 game suspension and he could miss more games if the league chooses to give him more at a hearing.

I personally think he deserves more than 10 games just because of how classless the move was. It may not look like much but that is an unprotected area of the body on a defenseless linesman who was looking the other way.  It doesn’t get any cheaper than that.

Arizona Baseball Recreates Iconic Scene From The Movie ‘Major League’

The movie ‘Major League’ is near the top of damn near everyone’s list of favorite sports movies and for good reason, it’s fan-fuckin-tastic in so many ways. From the iconic cast, to the one-liners we’ve all used at one time or another, this movie stands the test of time.

So, it takes some major balls to try and recreate one of the more well-known scenes from the movie, but Arizona damn near may have pulled it off.

From the coach attempting to alter his voice to sound like the famous Lou Brown, to the freshman Matt Frazier (pictured above) stepping up his game to play the one and only Willie “Mays” Hayes, this has it all.

For a comparison, here’s the original in all its NSFW glory here:

Cubs Minor League Team Offers One Of The Weirdest Ticket Packages You’ll Ever See

Themed nights at Minor League ball parks have become quite the scene as of late. Last year featured such gems as: Top Gun Night, Seinfeld Night, and even 90’s Nickelodeon night at Minor League ballparks across the nation.

Obviously we aren’t even into the 2017 season yet but that didn’t stop one of the Chicago Cubs Minor League teams from putting in an early bid for “weirdest themed night” of 2017 and if you thought Seinfeld night was strange, wait until you see this one.

Chicago Bears Reportedly Have Found Top Draft QB They “Love”

bears draft plan

As has been reported ever since the end of the 2016 season, the Chicago Bears are hunting for their next quarterback. Rumors started flying almost immediately after the regular season ended. Jay Cutler is likely on his way out. Brian Hoyer and Matt Barkley are both free agents who may be brought back as depth or veteran “bridge” options. A change is coming. It’s just a matter of from which direction.

Will it be free agency with someone like Tony Romo or even Kirk Cousins? Unlikely but not impossible. The Bears are center stage for discussions about a possible trade. Topping the list of hot names is New England Patriots backup Jimmy Garoppolo. Given his Illinois ties, that makes plenty of sense. However, with the 49ers and Browns also in hot pursuit (and holding more picks) the odds of Chicago getting him aren’t favorable.

Their best bet for landing an upper echelon talent still lay in the NFL draft. What with them holding the #3 overall pick. Experts continue to indicate that the 2017 class is “weak” at the position, unlike the three previous years. At the same time there is some considerable talent worth mining. It’s all about whether they trust their coaching staff to develop him properly.

Now it seems one name has reached the top of their list.
