Apparently the budget cuts are getting bad. WWE has released a plethora of talent since the beginning of Covid-19, but this may be the most shocking yet.
News came out today that WWE has released Shane McMahon, the son of WWE Chairman, CEO, and figurehead Vince McMahon.
The report was broken by Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer this morning.
Just a confirmation that Shane McMahon is out of WWE. More to come.

Reports are that Shane McMahon was in charge of booking the men’s Royal Rumble match this year, which did not go over extremely well. The match was relatively underwhelming, with not a lot of star power and lacking of the typical memorable moments that we’ve come to expect from Royal Rumble matches.
McMahon himself was actually an entrant of the Royal Rumble match.

Various reports state that there was specific frustration with rapper Bad Bunny’s role in the Rumble match. The rapper has wrestled in WWE before, but there was reportedly a lot of disagreement and last minute changes with his role and his entry number in this year’s match and that didn’t go over well since Bad Bunny was a celebrity guest in the match. Reportedly they didn’t want to come across “negatively” to him.
There was a lot of other reported backstage heat on Shane due to the booking of this match and how it went.
McMahon was scheduled to be in Elimination Chamber (WWE’s next upcoming PPV, or “Premium Live Event” as they like to call it) and WrestleMania, but he has effectively been replaced for those events now.
Now, of course, the rumor mill has gone crazy with theories that McMahon may show up in AEW, causing a full out reboot of the Monday night wars from the 90s between WWE and WCW. AEW is live from Chicago tonight of all places, so we’ll just have to wait and see…
Stay tuned for any possible updates.
