One of the UFC’s biggest stars has been arrested yet again. Considered by many fans and experts to be the greatest mixed martial arts fighter of all time, Jon Jones’ success inside the octagon has been almost mirrored by his downfalls outside of the octagon throughout his career.
In his latest incident, the former long-reigning light heavyweight champion was arrested shortly before 6 a.m. Friday (Sept. 24) morning in Las Vegas on a felony charge of injuring or tampering with a vehicle, as well as misdemeanor domestic abuse.
The arrest came only hours after Jones was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame for his 2013 fight with Alexander Gustafsson, which is widely regarded as one of the best fights in UFC history. Many have pointed out that the fact that Jones was arrested yet again merely hours after he was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame is the perfect microcosm of his career as a whole.

Initially, details on the arrest were vague and only the charges were known. However, today more details were released by the Las Vegas Metro Police Department on the incidents that unfolded leading to the arrest, and they don’t sound good to say the least.
According to an article by MMAFighting.com, the released police report stated that, “as Jones was being detained, he became irate and smashed his head into the front hood of the [Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department] patrol vehicle leaving a medium size dent as well as chipping some of the paint on the vehicle.” Due to the amount of damage Jones caused to the police vehicle, this is considered a felony charge in Nevada.
According to the police report, as Jones was placed in cuffs, he became extremely agitated and told the arresting officers that he would have a huge lawsuit filed against the Las Vegan Metro Police Department for putting him in handcuffs on “the biggest night of his life.”
The police report shows that Jones was a roller coaster of emotions during the arrest process, apparently joking to officers that he wanted them to take the handcuffs off and see if he could take them all on at once.
Additionally, when Jones joked that he could break out of the handcuffs, officers warned him that if he continued to resist arrest he would be tased. The police report states that after this warning, Jones apologized and complied with officers.
The Disturbing Reason Police Were Called
However, things get scarier when we find out why the police were called in the first place.
Police were originally called to Caesar’s Palace when a woman came down to the security desk bleeding from her nose/mouth. When police made contact with this woman, it turned out to be Jessie Moses, Jone’s fiancée, who stated to police that she is engaged to Jones and that they have been together for 17 years and have three children together. Moses originally went down to the front desk to ask for an extra key to their room, but when the desk attendant noticed the blood on her face they asked if she was ok. At that point, Moses began crying and stated that she was scared to go back to her room, leading to one of her children to ask the desk attendant “can you call the cops?”
After police arrived, she stated to police that after the UFC Hall of Fame ceremony, Jones went out with his friends around 11:30 p.m. but Moses opted to stay back at their hotel room.
Hours later, Jones would return to their room and according to Moses, “he was not very happy.” When police asked Moses if Jones had gotten physical with her, she responded “a little bit, yeah.” She would clarify that statement by saying that Jones “touched the back of my head and pulled my hair a little bit but he did not hit me or anything.” When asked why Jones had pulled her hair, Moses explained that Jones pulled her hair because she was “trying to leave the room.”
Perhaps the most disturbing part of the story is that despite Moses’ claims that Jones was only mildly physical, police noticed a seemingly large amount of blood. The police report states that the responding officers noticed that Moses had dried blood around the mouth and nose area of her face, along with a swollen lower lip. The police report states that Moses had blood “around her lips, chin, and all over her sweatshirt.”
Disturbingly, officers stated that “she seemed scared to even talk about Jones.” Equally disturbing, Moses asked the officers “how long do I have until he is out?” according to the police statement.
Jones denied that he touched Moses or pulled her hair and said that he didn’t know anything about the blood, however he admitted that they had been experiencing a lot of issues lately and were “arguing about the tension between them.”
Moses declined filing for a protective order against Jones.
Jones was released on bail and is due back in court on October 26.
