They also stated that any motive has not yet been established and the circumstances that lead up to the event are unclear as they continue to investigation. So as of right now, there’s really not much we know other than the fact that Velasquez has been taking into custody.
According to MMAFighting.com, online records state that Velasquez is currently being held without bail at the Santa Clara County Jail.
Velasquez was one of the most successful heavyweight champions of all time. He has been respected by fighters all over in his prime as well as still to this day. He was a longtime member of powerhouse gym AKA (American Kickboxing Academy) in San Jose, CA where he worked with teammates such as Daniel Cormier and Khabib Nurmagomedov.
More recently he has crossed over into professional wrestling with a few appearances in WWE and multiple appearances in AAA, Mexico’s top professional wrestling promotion. The UFC has not released any sort of statement yet and it is unclear if they will do so. Certainly UFC President Dana White will be asked about the situation at some point soon.
More updates will be posted as they become available.
