If the last name Pettis sounds familiar to you, that’s because it is. Angelo Pettis is the 18 year old cousin of Anthony Pettis (former UFC and WEC champion) and Sergio Pettis (current Bellator champion). The Milwaukee, WI native is still in high school, but he will be taking on his second amateur fight on February 27, 2022 when he takes on Jose Lemus. The fight was supposed to take place at 135 pounds, but Lemus missed weight by a considerable amount.
The fight is taking place on Fight Card Entertainment’s “Cross The Line” event, taking place at the Des Plaines Theater in Des Plaines, IL.
In speaking with the young fighter, he was very sure that this was what he wanted to do. Fighting is what he wants his future to be. He said that when he graduates from high school on May 27, 2022 (he had the date in his head, waiting for it), he has no plans of going to college. Instead, he plans on attending the professional practices at Rufusport MMA in Milwaukee, classes that he can’t currently attend now because they take place in the morning when he is away at school, learning.
Angelo’s first amateur fight was in November, 2021, where he won via a first round rear naked choke submission. Currently, he stands with a 1-0 amateur record. He says he wants to continue with a few more amateur fights before moving to the professional fighter status. If Angelo can live up to his name and continue winning, there is no doubt he will be one of the biggest stars in MMA in 5-10 years from now. Hell, even 10 years from now he will still only be 28, which is still incredibly young in the world of mixed martial arts.
