One can almost smell the cotton candy and popcorn from the circus every time Raiders wide receiver Antonio Brown logs onto social media. After reports last night that Brown would play in the team’s season opener against Denver Monday night, fans woke up to an Instagram post from Antonio Brown demanding the Raiders release the much-maligned former star.
The demand came not long after news broke that O*kland had fined Brown $215,073.53 on Friday night for conduct detrimental to the team on Sept. 4, which allowed the Raiders to void the $29.125 million worth of guaranteed money in his deal, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Brown and general manager Mike Mayock allegedly “got into it” Wednesday. Brown allegedly threatened to punch Mayock in the face after calling him a “cracker” before punting a football down the hallways, saying “Fine me for that.”
But everything seemed to moving the opposite direction yesterday when did an about face Brown made an apology to the team. In fact, Brown was expected to play Monday night after all the drama. The Raider Nation took a sigh of relief until later last night, when Brown took to Instagram with a video that seemingly included a private phone conversation between Brown and Raiders head coach Jon Gruden.
Fans went to be assuming the worst was behind them, especially after Gruden reportedly took no issue with the video. Then came this morning, and the reported fine. Brown got back on Instagram and posted this:
One can only imagine Gruden and his coaching staff running into Brown at the practice facility.
We’re sure this is only the beginning of what could be a long, drawn out process for the team and for the former Masked Singer contestant.
