While the UNLV Rebels did not have a player drafted, the Las Vegas Raiders signed Javin White as an undrafted free agent. White was the Rebels defensive captain and had 79 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, and three interceptions. It looks like White will have a chance to stay in Las Vegas.
White is 6-3 205 pounds, and like Tanner Muse, he can play safety and linebacker. If White makes the team, he could be an outstanding special teams player with his speed and tackling ability.
White is versatile with good speed and tackling ability; he can go downhill fast and lay a significant blow on a ball carrier. White is good in zone defense when he can see what goes on in front of him. One of White’s weaknesses is his hips sometimes get stiff in coverage.
Javin White adds to the physical players that the Raiders drafted on defense. It will be interesting to see what position the Raiders will have White play. I would like to see him play as a coverage linebacker to handle tight ends or even end box safety with his tackling ability and speed.
I was very high on White coming into the draft; his ability to play many different positions is what I loved. It sucked he didn’t get drafted, but im happy he will get a chance to make the Las Vegas Raiders roster and stay local. The former UNLV Rebel could be a huge steal for the Raiders. Jon Gruden and Mike Mayock will love what White can bring to the team even if it’s on the practice squad. He is a player you will want to keep around because he can do a lot of things for your defense. Another cool fact about White is he grew up in Oakland, California, and went to McClymonds High School.
