Henry Ruggs III and Las Vegas Raiders Agree To Deal

-

With training camp quickly approaching, the Las Vegas Raiders and first-round drat pick Henry Ruggs III agreed on a deal. The deal is for a standard rookie deal for four-years worth $16.7 million that includes a fifth-year option.

Henry Ruggs III

Ruggs was drafted with the 12th pick of the 2020 NFL Draft and was the first receiver taken. Ruggs ran the fasted time at the combine with a 4.27-second 40-yard dash. Also, Ruggs had a 42-inch vertical leap and a broad jump of 131 inches.

Ruggs is fast, but he also is a pretty good route runner and can catch the ball. In his time at Alabama, he developed his route running skills. The Raiders will need Rugg’s speed to become a more dynamic offense.

Raiders Offense

The Raiders Ranked 24th in scoring offense averaging 19.6 points per game. Las vegas receivers struggled last year, getting open and making big plays for the offense. Adding Ruggs will open up the Raiders offense more. With Rugg’s speed, he has to be accounted for. Players like tight end Darren Waller and slot receiver Hunter Renfrow should benefit most for having Ruggs on the team. Ruggs will take the top off the defense, and the safety will have to cover over the top, leaving Waller and Renfrown to roam the middle. Having a healthy Tyrell Williams will help as well.

Ruggs can line up anywhere at the receiver position; he will be a dynamic playmaker for the Raiders. Ruggs will be used reverses and wide receiver screens. Let’s hope coach Jon Gruden opens up his playbook to see Ruggs reach his full potential.

In three seasons at Alabama, Ruggs caught 98 passes for 1,716 yards and 24 touchdowns. He also averaged 17.5 yards per catch, so the big play ability is there. Last season, Ruggs had two rushed for 75 yards and a touchdown.
