Floyd Mayweather Coming Out Of Retirement…To Join MMA?!

-

One of the greatest boxers of all time, Floyd “Money” Mayweather, is coming out of retirement, except not how most people would think. The richest boxer to ever live has signed a deal to fight for the Rizin Fighting Federation on Dec. 31st at RIZIN 14.

He will be fighting a 20-year-old prospect by the name of Tenshin Nasukawa. Nasukawa is a well renowned kick boxer in Japan who has looked pretty lethal throughout his career, sporting a 4-0 record.

The Face of MMA?

It seems the face of boxing has his eyes set on being the face of MMA. Mayweather seems to be confident in his MMA skills if he is willing to take on this young and hungry undefeated kickboxer. But to be honest, I’m not quite sure this is the best move for Floyd at this point in his career.

The 50-0 boxer is no doubt one of the most decorated names in the history of combat sports. But what skill set does he bring to the octagon other than his boxing? Even though he will be taking on a striker, Mayweather will still be at a disadvantage if you take into account the edge Nasukawa will have with distance.

Floyd will be able to use his boxing comfortably in this fight. Nasukawa, however, will be able to throw his vicious kicks. This also means he will control the distance in the fight. Floyd will have to rely on his expertise boxing to close the distance and land consistently.

There are also many other factors to take into account regarding this fight. Will Floyd be used to the MMA gloves as opposed to the boxing gloves? Can his body take this type of punishment at such an old age?

What are his intentions?

It seems like “Money” Mayweather is living life more on the edge these days. He was always known for being a strategic fighter and businessman. Nowadays, it looks like he is willing to take more risks. But why? His intentions for taking this are unclear, but I’m sure there is a method to his madness.

The last day of December could end up being a stain on the resume of Mayweather. In fact, if I were a betting man, I would almost bet that it will be. Thank God I’m not a betting man though. There is something up Mayweather’s sleeve. We just don’t know what it is yet, but we will find out soon enough.
