The Chicago White Sox has a rich uniform history. Everything from the classic pinstripes, vest, numbers on the pants, powdered blue uniforms, red pinstripes, and shorts. The White Sox’s current rotation of uniforms includes their classic home pinstripes, alternate black uniforms, a gray road jersey, and ’83 Sunday throwbacks. The White Sox announced Friday morning that they are adding another uniform to the collection.
Nike allowed all MLB teams to design a city connect jersey. Historically the White Sox logo has always been associated with pop culture. Countless rappers from across the United States have sported White Sox gear. Kevin Durant even did a press conference with a White Sox cap on despite having no connection with the city. The White Sox came up with a jersey that perfectly captures the Southside culture and the team’s swagger.
The team broke the news in a video featuring music from rapper Polo G. The video also included Chicago influencers Ryan Henry, Vic Lloyd, Runsy, and DJ Zel.
The black & white is iconic – a game changer.
But now, it’s time for the remix.

Here is what the White Sox had to say about their new look:
“The White Sox brand aligned perfectly with their side of town’s attitude. The look not only resonated Southside but permeated through hip hop and youth culture. It was a true game-changer. But now it’s time for the remix. Time to rep this city. The Chi. The Southside.
The White Sox dark-grey city connect jersey is inspired by the city’s greystone architectural style. A black pattern across the jersey creates texture and symbolizes the resilience of the city’s people.
The “Southside” graphic on the jersey’s chest reimagines the popular White Sox gothic-script logo to create a new font and number system. The “Chi on the hat and “Chicago” above the size tag is a reminder of where we came from, Southside forever.”
Fans can purchase the new gear, which includes authentic and replica jerseys as well as hoodies and T-shirts at the Chicago Sports Depot.

“Every aspect of this collection is meant to connect with the people who understand what the ‘Southside’ represents. It’s not just about where our ballpark is located or where people from the city or suburbs live. It’s a mentality and a culture shared by many who love the White Sox,” the White Sox chief revenue and marketing officer said. “The Nike MLB City Connect Series created a rare opportunity to transform a concept for all people who understand what it means to represent the ‘Southside’ into an on-field look and style. We are grateful to Nike who helped us create a uniform that embodies the team’s historic legacy and connections to our fans and the mentality.”
These jerseys are indeed game-changers. The White Sox will debut them, Saturday, June 5th at 1:10 PM against the Detroit Tigers.
To celebrate the debut of the “Southside” jersey, the team and Fanatics are partnering to hold a Watch Party on Saturday, June 5th from 10 am-8 p.m at Navy Pier. The event will feature a Nike/Fanatics merchandise trailer, speed pitch, live DJ, giveaways, and a live broadcast of the White Sox game.
