The White Sox have already traded away five players but more moves could be on the horizon that shake up the organization. According to Bruce Levine of 670 The Score the Brewers and Marlins have shown interest in Eloy Jimenez.
Jimenez is under club control until 2026 via two club options after the 2024 season. This would go against previous reports that the White Sox were only looking at trading expiring contracts. It seems like the front office is softening that stance since they already dealt Kendall Graveman who was under contract through 2024 as well as Lance Lynn and Joe Kelly who each had a club option.
This report doesn’t mean that the White Sox are shopping Jimenez. Jon Heyman reported earlier this month that Jimenez was one of the White Sox four “untouchables” alongside Luis Robert Jr, Dylan Cease and Andrew Vaughn.
But considering Jimenez’s rich injury history the White Sox would be dumb to not listen to offers. The Brewers entered the season with the 15th-ranked farm system according to MLB.com while the Marlin’s system was ranked 18th. Both teams would have to put together a substantial package to land Jimenez.
The 26-year-old is slashing .285/.328/.478 with 13 home runs and 46 RBIs this season. Those numbers could be even better if he didn’t miss a month due to a hamstring injury and appendectomy.
His numbers this season match his career production. Last season he was limited to 84 games with injury but still managed to rank eighth in the American League and 10th in slugging percentage. He also led the White Sox in both categories and ranked second with 16 home runs.
While the offensive production is undeniable he is still a liability in the outfield. The soon to be 27 year old is still really young to be a full-time DH, but if his defense does not improve soon, that could be where he winds up permanently.
Even with his injuries and limited defense, he would still demand a large return. Jimenez is only owed $13 million next year, $16.5 in 2025, and $18.5 in 2026 if the White Sox pick up his club options in his team-friendly six-year deal.
Tim Anderson has also garnered trade interest from multiple teams as he continues to heat up at the plate. In his last 15 games, Anderson is hitting .279/.343/.311.
The Marlins are one of the teams interested according to ESPN’s Jesse Rodgers. Jon Morosi also reported that the chances of Anderson getting traded are increasing, especially if he plays second base like he showed he was capable of in the World Baseball Classic.
During a media session following the Lance Lynn trade, Rick Hahn talked about future leaders in the White Sox clubhouse and failed to mention Anderson’s name which was quite telling considering how long he has been around. It may signal the White Sox are willing to move the two-time All-Star for the right price despite having another year of control.
There are also rumblings the White Sox could be looking to unload Yoan Moncada’s contract. The organization is growing frustrated with his inability to stay on the field and inconsistent play.
Finding a trade partner may be more difficult considering that Moncada also has a long injury history but hasn’t had nearly the same production as Jimenez since 2019.
Moncada is talented but has missed over 100 games in the last three seasons. His offense has also fallen off. After batting .263 in 2021 he hit .212 last season and is currently batting .223. Some teams may still be willing to take a flier on him since he was a former top prospect and has shown flashes of All-Star potential
If the White Sox are indeed willing to trade Moncada they may be willing to trade Jimenez for the right price. It’s also worth noting that neither Moncada nor Anderson has been listed as untouchable.
Jimenez, Moncada, Anderson, Vaughn…trade all of ’em.
