None of the White Sox six top-100 prospects broke camp with the team, as most of them were assigned to AA or AAA to start the 2025 season. While that makes the upper minors in the White Sox farm system must-watch baseball, the major league team can still have its moments.
While the AA affiliate of the White Sox, the Birmingham Barons, don’t start their season until April 4th, the AAA affiliate, the Charlotte Knights, got off to a phenomenal start on Friday.
The Knights kicked their season off against the Gwinnett Stripers, the AAA affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. The Knights started 2025 off with a bang, as they beat the Stripers 9-1. This is noteworthy because of who contributed to those nine runs, as the top prospects in the White Sox organization were having themselves a day.
Chase Meidroth had himself a nice day in the field and at the plate, as he went 1 for 3 with two walks. He also scored two of the nine runs, as good things happen when you get on base.
Colson Montgomery also had a nice game, as he went 1 for 5, but his one hit was an impressive homerun. The homer was a two run shot, giving himself a nice 2 RBI day to start the season.
Edgar Quero went 2 for 4 with two runs and a walk. This is an encouraging sign, as Quero is still just 21 years old and this was his 27th game in AAA.
Kyle Teel went yard, as he was also 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a walk. Teel had a case to make the team out of Spring Training, so it is good to see him have a fantastic first game in the minors. If he continues to play like this, he may force his way to Chicago before the calendar turns to May.
Tim Elko also hit a homerun, as he went 2 for 4 with three RBIs on the night. All Elko has done since joining the White Sox organization is hit, so the White Sox should see what he can do at the major league level soon, as he is 26 years old.
On the pitching side things also went well. Jared Shuster threw three innings of one run ball, striking out six in the process. Adisyn Coffey threw two scoreless innings, striking out three. Gus Varland finished out the game with a scoreless inning as well.
This is the perfect Opening Day for the Knights, as the youth was on display. With the current roster in Chicago, there is a ton of room for these prospects to come up and make an impact before the all-star break. Getz hasn’t shied away from calling up prospects, so be on the lookout for call ups soon if this continues.
