With the White Sox coming off of one of the worst seasons in major league history, expectations are as low as they could be for the 2025 season, as they didn’t make any significant offseason additions. However, over the first three games, there has been a very positive development, one that could help make the 2025 season watchable for many fans.
In the opening series against the Los Angeles Angels, the starting pitching was lights-out. In the first game, Sean Burke went six innings, striking out three batters, while walking none. He gave up three hits and had one HBP. Outside of a shaky first inning, Burke was dominant, even without some of his best swing and miss stuff. While the Angels aren’t a great team, he still looked great against major league hitting.
Jonathan Cannon started the second game, also having himself a nice game. Cannon found his pitch count rising in the first inning, but he battled through five innings, striking out five batters. He gave up just four hits while walking three. Even with Cannon not having his best stuff he put together a nice scoreless start.
Davis Martin took the ball in today’s game, going six strong innings. After an interesting first inning where he gave up two unearned runs, he trucked on, striking out two, while giving up four hits and two walks. This was the third straight solid start for the White Sox and the second quality start of the season already.
The White Sox couldn’t have asked for much more out of the starting pitching for the first three games, as they have tossed 17 innings, giving up no earned runs. Unfortunately for the White Sox, it may only lead to one or two wins, as the offense was quiet in yesterday’s game.
On top of the starting pitching, the bullpen has been fantastic as well, as they have given up just two runs in eight innings, one coming in a blowout ninth inning, while the other scored only because a runner got from first to third on a wild pitch.
The White Sox will stick around in a ton of games due to their solid pitching staff, but the wins will only come if the bats come awake. However, the runs may start to come, as the AAA team and the top prospects have been off to a hot start to the season.
Sox pitching does it again today! This time a shutout. If we had any semblance of hitting in games 2 and 3 against the Angels we’d be 4-0. This is starting to get interesting.
