Finally, MLB Pipeline updated its prospect list and added the new draft picks to the top 100 and the individual team top 30 prospects. This included some big changes for the White Sox and their newly revamped farm system.
While they still have only three in the top 100, two prospects had some large jumps and they will now have three top 80 prospects. Their top 30 looks really nice too and it should provide some solid major league talent in the near future. Here is a look at the new updates.
New Top-100 List
On the new list, Colson Montgomery has shot up all the way to 17. He moves up from the mid-30s on their list, as he deserves to be a top 20 prospect in all of baseball. He should take over shortstop for the Sox in a year or so and never give it back.
The biggest jump goes to Noah Schultz, as he jumps all the way from the mid-90s all the way to 66. He should be much higher on this list, as he is on Baseball America, but I’m sure by the time they release the list for the beginning of the season next year, he will easily be top 30.
The only player that dropped on the list was the newly acquired Edgar Quero. He drops from the mid-60s to 87, but he is still one of the top 10 catching prospects in all of baseball. Don’t let the drop fool you, as he is still likely the catcher of the future for the White Sox.
Two names that are close but did not make the list are Bryan Ramos and Jake Eder. If they continue to have a strong rest of the year, they could easily make the 2024 top 100 list at the beginning of the year. Regardless, they are rising prospects that still get a lot of love from other ranking systems like Baseball America and Fangraphs.
Updated Top-30
In the new list of strictly White Sox prospects, they have finally added the 2023 draft class. Number one is still Colson Montgomery, and two is Noah Schultz, but the rest of the top five are players either recently traded for or drafted by the Sox.
Edgar Quero sits at number three and 2023 first-round pick Jacob Gonzalez slots in at 4. I am sure he just missed the cutoff for the top 100 list. Number five is Jake Eder, who the Sox traded Jake Burger to get at the deadline. It really hurt to trade Burger, but getting a really good prospect is a nice consolation prize.
A few other 2023 draft picks have been added to the top 30, which now could be a top 15 system in all of baseball. Second-rounder Grant Taylor is the 13th-ranked prospect, third-rounder Seth Keener is now the 14th-ranked prospect, and seventh-rounder George Wolkow is ranked as the 17th prospect in the system.
This system has improved greatly in just over a month and it should be very highly ranked if the 2023 draft class plays well to start their minor league careers. It will be fun to monitor their progress and some should be in the upper levels of the minors or on the Sox shortly.
