The 2024 season for the Chicago White Sox was one of the worst in modern day baseball history. They were 41-121 and the worst team in the league by far. The bright spots were few and far between, as the team was very hard to watch for many White Sox fans.
However, down on the farm, the White Sox have some very intriguing players that can give fans a glimmer of hope for the future. We will be recapping the seasons of some of the best prospects in the White Sox system, starting from #30 and going in order to #1 as MLB Pipeline has them ranked. As you’ll see, there are some very intriguing prospects that can help bring the White Sox back to relevance.
Ranked at 18 on the White Sox top 30 prospect list is starting pitcher Blake Larson. Larson was selected at 68th overall with the White Sox second round competitive balance pick that they received from the Seattle Mariners in the Gregory Santos trade.
Since he was selected out of IMG Academy high school, he didn’t get a chance to make his minor league debut. Due to the fact he was a highly touted arm coming out of high school, the White Sox had to sign him to an over slot deal to keep him away from his TCU commitment and keep him in the White Sox organization.
As a projectable left-handed starter, Larson looks to join the ranks of other left-handed starters, as well as starters in general that have found success developing in the White Sox organization.
Since he didn’t get a chance to pitch in any affiliated leagues this season, he will likely start off in the Arizona Complex League before making his way to the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers. Barring anything spectacular happening, it is likely that is the highest-level Larson will make it to, as they will not want to rush his development.
I look forward to seeing how Larson looks in his first year of minor league baseball, as he is a very talented pitcher and there is a reason why he was selected so high in the draft.
