On Sunday the Glendale Desert Dogs slugged their way to a 7-6 extra-inning victory over the Mesa Solar Sox. Three of those runs came courtesy of back-to-back-to-back home runs in the second inning and the White Sox No. 7 prospect, Bryan Ramos was right in the middle of it.
Ramos took a looping first-pitch curveball from Solar Sox starting pitcher and Yankees prospect, Trystan Vrieling and pounded it over the left-center field fence. It was the second of the three back-to-back-to-back jacks with Damon Keith of the Dodgers hitting the first and Kala’i Rosario, the Twins’ No. 19 prospect hitting the third.
“I just say, if he throws something in the middle of the plate– something good– I’m going to swing. I’m gonna try to make good contact,” Ramos told MLB.com after the game.
The Arizona Fall League is a great showcase for Ramos, who quietly put together a stellar season in Double-A Birmingham. Ramos finished the 2022 season in Birmingham and went 3-for-4 with a home run in his Barons debut. However, he started the 2023 season with High-A Kannapolis. He was called back up from Kannapolis in May and didn’t look back.
The 21-year-old slashed .271/.369/.457 with 14 home runs and 48 RBIs in 77 games. He also finished inside the top 15 of all Southern League hitters with a .826 OPS, .374 wOBA and 122 wRC+.
His development offensively has excited scouts. Ramos always had a knack for making hard contact but since turning pro, he has shown the ability to convert his 6’2” frame into power. Ramos had 15 homers in 2023, 22 in 2022, and 13 in 2021.
Ramos began the season as the White Sox No. 3 prospect but after some trade deadline deals helped bolster the farm system he fell down four spots. He has the ability to play second base and third base, with the majority of his work coming in the hot corner. His expected arrival time in the MLB is near the end of the 2024 season.
In 2022 Ramos ranked third in the White Sox organization in RBIs (74), fifth in home runs, sixth in hits (123) and total bases (210), eighth in runs scored (72) and slugging percentage (.455) and ninth in extra-base hits (42).
Sunday marked the second home run Ramos has hit this fall. He is batting .265 in the AFL with four RBIs and a .723 OPS.
