Just how bad have the White Sox been in recent years? Over 20 percent of players in the bottom 30 in Win Probably Added during the 2024 season wore a White Sox jersey.
Korey Lee, Lenyn Sosa, Eloy Jimenez, Dominic Fletcher, Nick Senzel, and Andrew Vaughn were among the bottom 30 players in baseball last season by Win Probability Added. Former White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson had the second-worst Win Probability Added at -3.30. For context, Shoehei Ohtani led baseball with a +7.31 mark.
It’s a concerning number considering that Lee, Sosa, Fletcher, and Vaughn will all likely be back in a White Sox uniform next season. Given how many White Sox position players were on the list, it’s understandable why Chris Getz wanted to target offense in the moves he has made this offseason. However, with a limited budget and a team that lost 121 games the prior season, Getz’s squad will likely have triple-digit losses for a third consecutive season.
Former White Sox pitchers Reynaldo Lopez and Chris Sale saw themselves in the top 30 on the list. Lopez’s +3.24 Win Probability added was good enough for the 28th highest in baseball while Sale’s +4.04 mark ranked 12th.
