-

The Chicago White Sox have reportedly landed a top international third base prospect. According to MLB.com the White Sox agreed to a deal with 17-year-old Eduardo Herrera on after the 2024 international signing period opened on Monday. The White Sox have yet to confirm the deal.

Herrera is considered one of the best pure power hitters in this year’s international prospect class and is ranked No. 11 overall according to MLB.com’s prospect rankings. He is the White Sox highest-ranked international prospect since Oscar Colas, who was ranked fifth in MLB Pipeline’s 2022 international class.

Herrera is now the White Sox’s highest-ranked international prospect since Oscar Colas, who was ranked fifth in MLB Pipeline’s 2022 international class.

Herrera looks the part. His 6 foot 2, 200-pound frame has him projected to be a big bat in the middle of the lineup. However, as he continues to grow he could eventually be moved to first base.

Scouts grade him as a 55 overall on a 20-80 scale. His power received the highest grade of his five tools with a 60. Herrera is considered an average fielder at the hot corner with a 55 arm grade and a 50 fielding grade. He currently trains with Alexis Salazar, who is a member of MLB’s Trainer Partnership Program.

Herrera made the Venezuelan 18 and under National team at the age of 15. According to MLB Pipeline, he began his baseball career as a shortstop but quickly outgrew the position and was moved to third base. Scouts also say Herrera handles offspeed pitches well for his age and has shown the ability to make adjustments on the fly. He has also drawn comparisons to a teenage Albert Pujols.

Chicago has a $5.284 million signing pool, Herrera is likely to make just under $2 million, however, the terms of his agreement have not yet been announced. Francys Romero, projected in December that the deal would likely be between $1.2-$1.6 million.
