White Sox Dodge An Injury Bullet With Top Prospect

-

The White Sox  No. 2 prospect Noah Shultz was scratched from his Sunday start against Knappolis with a shoulder injury.

Shultz was placed on the IL with some fearing it could be a season-ending injury. However, MLB.com Scott Merkin reported that Shultz was placed on the IL with shoulder impingement but there are no long-term concerns and he will only need a couple of weeks to recover.

White Sox fans can collectively breathe a sigh of relief. Shultz is one of the few bright spots fans have to look forward to in an otherwise abysmal season for the White Sox.

The 65th overall prospect in baseball was selected by the White Sox with the 26th overall pick in the MLB draft last July. He suffered a flexor strain in Spring Training which delayed his professional debut and added to the initial concern about the most recent injury report.

Scouts say his slider was one of the best in the 2022 Draft due to its high spin rate and the tough angle his tall 6-foot-9 frame creates on left-handed hitters. Meanwhile, his fastball can touch 97 mph which adds to the difficulty of teeing up his slider. The numbers tell the story

This season Shultz boasts a 1.33 ERA in ten starts in Single-A Kannapolis. Opponents are hitting just .175 off the left-hander who has also posted a 0.85 WHIP.

Shultz seemed to be in line for a promotion to Double-A soon but given the recent injury, it is likely he will finish the year in Kannapolis.
