White Sox Call Up Top Infielder Prospect For The First Time

-

The White Sox have called up top infield prospect Chase Meidroth to the major leagues, per Thomas Nestico of TJStats. James Fegan of SoxMachine elaborated that the White Sox will have to clear a 40-man roster spot to accommodate Meidroth’s arrival.

Meidroth’s Strong Start To 2025

Meidroth, 23, was acquired from the Boston Red Sox this past offseason as part of the Garrett Crochet trade and is currently the #8 prospect in the White Sox organization per MLB.com. He was off to a fantastic start in AAA, putting up a 1.050 OPS in 40 plate appearances over nine games this season. He also walked eight times compared to just five strikeouts. Plate discipline and bat-to-ball skills have always been Meidroth’s specialty. Those trends have continued in the early going of 2025. Meidroth has walked at a 20% clip so far, and his .227 BABIP suggests he was unlucky despite still putting up impressive stats.

Meidroth has also shown improved power. He already has three home runs this season after hitting just seven all of last year in 122 games. His AAA stats stack up nicely compared to his peers. He is in the 85th percentile or better in several stats, including barrel%, whiff%, BB%, K%, and Z-Contact%. The advanced stats back up how good he has been. His AAA numbers are not a fluke and provide optimism that he can carry over his minor league success to the big leagues.

Potential Corresponding Move

While the corresponding move has not been announced yet, it feels logical that Jacob Amaya could be headed out. The White Sox starting shortstop up to this point, Amaya is one of many players in the White Sox lineup struggling to produce with the bat. Meidroth will undoubtedly be an offensive upgrade, and his defensive versatility could also be helpful. He has extended experience at second, third, and shortstop since entering professional baseball.

The Future Is Now For The White Sox

Expect to see Chase Meidroth’s name in the White Sox lineup a lot from here on out. He earned this promotion rightfully and could be a core piece for the team moving forward. As fate would have it, Meidroth’s MLB debut could come this weekend against the Red Sox, the team that traded him away. He could even face Crochet himself, as he is Boston’s projected starting pitcher on Sunday.
