This offseason has been one of the most productive ones the White Sox have had in years. Their biggest needs for the 2020 roster were 2 starting pitchers, 2 impact bats, and bullpen help. So far Rick Hahn has turned those holes into Dallas Keuchel, Gio Gonzalez, Yasmani Grandal, Edwin Encarnacion, and Nomar Mazara. The only thing really left to do is to add a bullpen piece. Who could be a candidate to join the South Siders? Well, there are 2 great options currently still available.
Daniel Hudson
Daniel Hudson is coming off a great year that was capitalized by winning the World Series with the Nationals after being sent over from the Dodgers via trade. A former White Sox, Hudson will turn 33 just before the start of the season, but don’t let age fool you. Last year he put up one of his best seasons to date. Something especially hard to do in a year where we saw the liveliest baseball in the history of the game. Hudson finished with a 2.47 ERA in 73 innings.
A veteran pitcher who is familiar with the city and has plenty of postseason success? You could do far worse.
Will Harris
Will Harris is another reliever who is up there in age, but also shows no real signs of slowing down. Last year for Houston, Harris had a remarkable 1.50 ERA in 60 innings. He will be 35 on Opening Day in 2020, so he probably won’t get a lengthy contract.
Harris also offers valuable postseason experience and a proven track record of success. He even has an immaculate inning to show for it.
Obtaining either Hudson or Smith would really strengthen the bullpen. Pairing one of them with Alex Colome, Aaron Bummer, and Evan Marshall could make for a potentially devastating quartet of relievers. Let’s see if Rick Hahn has one more trick up his sleeve.
