Top Prospects Set To Take Center Stage In Kannapolis

-

The White Sox did not open up the season with any of their top-100 prospects on the major league roster, which surprised some people, as there were a few players that were projected to make it. However, that will make the minor league season significantly more interesting for many of the levels, as each level will have some intriguing prospects.

We can take a look at each level to see the top prospects who will suit up for them to start the season, as they will be interesting to follow as the season goes along. Here, we will start with the low-A affiliate, the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers.

Kannapolis should be a very interesting team to follow, as they will have some of the top hitting prospects in the system. Scott Merkin reports that Braden Montgomery, Nick McClain, and George Wolkow will start in Kannapolis, creating one of the more interesting outfields in the minor leagues.

McClain was selected in the 3rd round of the 2024 MLB draft and hasn’t gotten a chance to play in affiliated minor league baseball yet. Now ranked as the 28th prospect in the White Sox system, he gets a chance to get show what he can do in low-A.

Braden Montgomery was one of the main pieces in the Garrett Crochet trade and also hasn’t played any minor league baseball to this point. However, he is expected to be a quick riser through the minor leagues.

Wolkow had a fantastic season in 2024 for the Cannon Ballers, as he was one of the youngest players in the league. In 76 games with the Cannon Ballers, Wolkow hit .241 with a .342 OBP and a .428 slugging percentage. On top of that, he hit 11 homeruns and had 52 RBIs. He will look to build on this season, as he could sneak onto some top-100 prospect lists.

According Elijah Evans, 2024 second round pick Caleb Bonemer will also be in Kannapolis, as he will also skip rookie ball in Arizona and go straight to affiliated ball. He will be a name to follow, as he has a ton of potential and currently ranks as a top-15 prospect in the White Sox system.

Kannapolis will be a fun team to watch, as they will have some of the more interesting bats in the system. While the rest of the roster isn’t official yet, you should expect some other interesting names such as Jeral Perez to join the team.
