Spring Training Prospect Spotlight: Bryan Ramos

-

There are few prospects in major league camp that have as much potential as Bryan Ramos, as he is likely to man third base in the 2025 season if the White Sox don’t pick up Yoan Moncada’s team option. This would not be a bad option, as they could be in great hands with Ramos patrolling the hot corner.

Ramos is one of the best position player prospects in the White Sox system, even making his way on to multiple top 100 prospect lists this off-season. He has all the tools to become an above average major league player and we could see him as early as later this season.

This spring, Ramos has impressed in limited action. He started at third in the first game against the Cubs, showing signs of being an MLB third basemen. He had a solid day at the plate, but what really stuck out was his play at the hot corner.

Ramos has not been known for his fielding, but his game against the Cubs could change some of those narratives. He made some fantasitc plays at third, both with the glove and his arm. He showed off why he has one of the highest graded arms in the White Sox farm system.

This spring is no fluke, as he has a very solid track record in the minor leagues. After he was signed by the White Sox, he would go on to play well in the Arizona Complex League as a 17-year-old in 2019 playing about 56 games there. He would make his way to Kannapolis as a 19-year-old and he would play all of the 2021 season there, as he lost out of the minor league season in 2020 due to COVID.

In 2022, he started at High A , where he would play well. He hit .275 with an impressive .350 on-base percentage. He added 19 home runs and 74 RBIs, a very impressive power outing from him. This would earn him a spot at Project Birmingham to end the season.

In Birmingham, he played 21 games, hitting .225 with a .279 OBP. He added three home runs and 12 RBIs. Not the best output, but it was a small sample size and he was only 20 playing in AA.

Ramos would be unfortunately limited to only 81 games this past season due to injury. But once he returned to AA, he hit .274 with a .369 OBP in 77 games. He added 14 home runs, 48 RBIs, and four stolen bases. Overall, a very good offensive season for Ramos.

Ramos got some solid work in the Arizona Fall League this fall hitting .267 with two homeruns in 16 games. It is nice for him to get a little bit of extra work after missing a good chunk of games early in the season.

If he shows that he belongs the rest of Spring Training, he could be called upon if Yoan Moncada suffers an injury. Otherwise, he could be called up at some point at the end of the year for further evaluation. He is a name to watch in the White Sox system.
