Ozzie Guillen is sick of watching the White Sox lose. On Tuesday he watched from the NBC Sports Chicago studio as the White Sox dropped their 28th game of the season.
Their 8-28 record marks the worst start through 36 games in franchise history. They now have a -92 run differential. Nobody expected the White Sox to be good but White Sox general manager Chris Getz vowed to improve the culture over the offseason. Meanwhile, manager Pedro Grifol rambled about how the team would play fearless, aggressive, selfless, and technically sound baseball as part of a newly created F.A.S.T acronym. Neither has happened.
Grifol’s squad ranks dead last in the MLB in batting average, on-base percentage, OPS, slugging percentage, walks, pitches seen, WAR, home runs, runs scored, hits, barrel percentage, and hard-hit percentage. On the defensive end, the White Sox rank dead last in Defensive Runs Saved. Their defense also tied for 6th in errors.
Guillen is not afraid to speak his mind and on Tuesday night he sounded off on the team’s lack of accountability during the White Sox Postgame Show.
“The word accountable. They say that every day. They lying they [are] not accountable they don’t. I’m sorry they don’t they not,” the 2005 World Series champion said. “I told my wife yesterday, last night I get home [she] was like ‘are you okay?’ I said ‘No I’m tired of watching this thing day in and day out.’ I’m getting paid. Yes. But I’m a White Sox fan bro.”
It’s hard to blame Guillen. The veterans that Getz brought in were supposed to help the White Sox play clean baseball. But despite the roster overhaul many of the same mistakes from 2023 are rearing its ugly head. Grifol’s go-to saying after losses is to “flush it”. At this point, the toilet is clogged with losses.
The Bears have a plan that I think we all can follow, critics may disagree with the moves, but we fans get it and can root for it. Maybe it is too early to understand what our Sox are up to, but I look forward to the clarity, so I know what I am rooting for. We lost 8 good players in 1920 and still had a team worth watching – Schalk, Faber, Collins etc. I am always a Sox fan but this is hard.
