Luis Robert has officially taken the MLB by storm.
Many thought that he would struggle initially, as his fellow teammates Eloy Jimenez and Yoan Moncada did in their respective careers. That however, has not been the case at all. In fact, as of today, he is tied with Aaron Judge as the 2nd most valuable player in all of baseball.
He’s on pace for 3.5 fWAR in a sixty game season, as a rookie seeing MLB level pitching for the first time. If we were playing a normal 162 game season, he could already be a double-digit WAR player, again as a rookie!
These stat cast numbers are insane for someone who’s played in 8 games. We have truly never seen someone of Robert’s caliber on the South Side…ever. He is a true 5-tool player that we get to watch for the next 8 seasons.
Eloy will be a 40 home run guy, and Moncada is a superstar in his own right. But what Robert does is just electric. He’s already must-see television and that’s not me being biased at all.
Fans new he would be good, if not great. But no one expected this much this fast. He’s already shown he can make adjustments throughout the course of a game, so even if he starts slow, he has the ability to finish blazing fast.
One thing is certain: The Sox have another super star on the South Side, and we get the pleasure of watching him for the next 8 years minimum. His ceiling is limitless, and his floor is still a great player.
It could be that one day Robert is a top 3 player in baseball. And Sox fans deserve it.
