After it was announced that Liam Hendriks was dealing with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, many were concerned for him. One’s health comes before everything else, so many people were focused on making sure that he beat the cancer.
Fast forward six months and Liam Hendriks is cancer free and has made his return to the major leagues. It was an inspirational return and Liam looked great, especially for missing that much time. Liam being cancer free is truly amazing and it is insane how quickly he was able to return to baseball. Now, to put a cherry on top, he was awarded the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance at the ESPYS.
A Great Honor
The fact that Liam has been chosen for this award shows how much he really went through. For someone to beat cancer and return to baseball within a six-month time frame is almost unheard of. I can’t imagine what he went through to get to that point.
This could not have happened to a better person, as Liam has been a true role model for kids on and off the field. The way that he carries himself and goes about his business is truly professional.
I think I can speak for everyone when I say that we are so happy that Hendriks has beaten cancer and has been able to resume his life. He has truly been the best story in all of baseball and is without a doubt the comeback player of the year.
Hendriks now joins names such as Dick Vitale, Stuart Scott, Craig Sager, and many other brave individuals to win the award. Congratulations Liam, you deserve it!
Hendrik’s Return
Not to overshadow the fact that Liam has won this award, he is also making progress on returning to the mound.
He is now cleared to throw, but there is no timetable exactly for when he will make his return to baseball.
Hopefully, he can make his return soon, as he has been on the IL for a few weeks now with elbow inflammation and soreness.
Regardless, it is an inspiration that he is with the team and able to play baseball again. He went through so much to get to this point and has worked hard to get back to where he was last year.
Once he returns, he will need a few outings to get back to his normal self, but hopefully, he will be all clear from the soreness.
Great
