Jose Abreu Accepts Qualifying Offer, Will Return To The White Sox

-

There was never any real doubt that Jose Abreu wouldn’t be back on the South Side in 2020, but now it’s official. Moments ago, Abreu accepted the qualifying offer, a 1 year deal worth 17.8M.

What It Means

It means a couple things. First and most importantly, a hole is officially filled at first base for at least one more year. However, both sides can still work on a longer deal.

If however, the sides don’t come to a deal and 2020 is Abreu’s last with the White Sox, Andrew Vaughn would more than likely be ready to slide in as the starting first baseman in 2021.

Regardless of what happens, this is great news for the White Sox. Now they can focus on filling up the other holes on their roster as they take another step towards competing.
