The new section of bleachers in right field named “The Goose Island” at Guaranteed Rate Field appears to be a bourgeoisie attempt to appropriate proletariate drinking culture. The beloved Section-108 fans at White Sox games, whom to the best of our knowledge created the #108ing hashtag, weighed in on the matter with a particularly poignant tweet the other day.

Absolute brilliance! But all joking aside — and ignoring that abstruse lede — the new Goose Island section is pretty awesome.

The Good Island section has been created to provide a luxurious experience for fans that includes in-seat service and comfortable seating for patrons in the first few rows, and water features will surround the entire section that enhances the feeling of island living — kinda.
Here is an excerpt from the White Sox press release:
“The Goose Island” transforms two outfield seating sections into a new space, featuring a variety of seating options. Rows will include field-level views, group party areas and individual seating as well as a fun, social space in a few standing-room rows near the outfield concourse. All areas of “The Island” will have in-seat service. A total of 326 seats will be available in the section.
The first few rows of “The Goose Island” will provide a modernized experience for fans with leather cushion seats complete with armrests and cup holders, device charging ports, television screens and shelves for storage. Seats for this area include in-seat service and $20 of loaded value with each ticket to be spent in-park on food, beverages or merchandise from the White Sox.
As part of the partnership, Goose Island also will receive naming rights to the bar area next to the visiting bullpen, which will be known as the Goose Island Craft Kave, and a walk-up bar accessible from the 100-level outfield concourse. Within the outfield concourse area, a 10-foot Goose Island tap handle statute will be featured overlooking the ballpark.
I’m catching visions of the South-Florida atrocity in Miami with a sailfish pendulum and pastel colors.
More from the Sox press release:
“It feels like a dream come true to bring Goose Island to the pride of the South Side,” said Todd Ahsmann, President of Goose Island Beer Co. “I’ve been a huge fan my entire life and can’t wait to celebrate in this new space. With great beer and promising team on the field, what’s not to look forward to?”
“‘The Goose Island’ and the Goose Island Craft Kave are going to be ‘must-visit’ spots for every fan who attends a White Sox game,” said Brooks Boyer, White Sox Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “Goose Island shares our passion for delivering a completely unique fan experience and this new section will not only add to the unique look of Guaranteed Rate Field, but also offer a cool game-viewing experience.”
If the Craft Kave and Section 108 haven’t been migratory checkpoints in your travels around Guaranteed Rate Field thus far, these places seem like special monuments of the fan experience. If nothing else, at least you can grab a tasty brew with the economic elite and then visit the 108-crew to guzzle it down with die-hard Sox fans.
