White Sox ace Lucas Giolito is nearing his spring training debut after throwing his first live BP session Sunday. The right-hander was slightly held back at the start of camp because of a strained rib muscle.
But following the live BP on Sunday, Giolito feels good and ready to get into a game.
“I’m happy with my health,” Giolito said. “My arm feels really good, body feels really good. I felt pretty in sync with my mechanics. A couple things to kind of harp on. It was a good day.”
White Sox manager Rick Renteria said Giolito will make his first Cactus League start later this week.
The White Sox had a comeback win against the Angels Sunday and the kids kept hitting. Yermin Mercedes started the team’s eight-run rally in the fourth that also included a game-tying RBI-single by Nick Madrigal.
Madrigal also threw out a runner at home on a relay throw from shallow right field.
Mercedes did look silly in the fifth on a pop up, but obviously you can’t deny that this dude can rake.
Andrew Vaughn got in on the hit parade later in the game and he just looks like a pro despite being in college last year.
Finally, veteran lefty Dallas Keuchel will make his spring debut today against the Padres.
