Former major league pitcher Octavio Dotel was among 160 people injured in the Dominican Republic early Tuesday, when the roof of an iconic nightclub collapsed.

At least 44 people were killed, including Nelsy Cruz, the governor of the northwestern province of Montecristi and sister of seven-time MLB All-Star Nelson Cruz.

Crews continue to search for potential survivors in the rubble of the Jet Set nightclub in Santo Domingo.

“We presume that many of them are still alive, and that is why the authorities here will not give up until not a single person remains under the rubble,” said Juan Manual Méndez, director of the Center of Emergency Operations.

Dotel began his 15-year MLB career with the New York Mets in 1999. The right-handed pitcher ended up playing for 13 different teams in his career, which until 2019, was the record for any player in MLB history. Among those 13 stops, Dotel pitched for the White Sox in 2008-09.

The right-hander posted a 3.55 ERA in 129.1 innings during his time with the White Sox. Dotel also pitched in all four games of the 2008 ALDS against the Tampa Bay Rays.

The reliever recorded 109 career saves with 1,143 strikeouts and had a 3.78 ERA. Dotel pitched for the St. Louis Cardinals in 2011, and earned a World Series ring with the NL Central team.

Dotel officially retired from MLB on Oct. 3, 2014.
