Eloy Jimenez had only been off the injured list for seven innings before experiencing discomfort once again. On Sunday Jimenez returned to action after a hamstring injury suffered in May had kept him out of the lineup for a month.
Jimenez went 1-for-4 with a run scored against the Tigers, but as he ran out of the batter’s box after hitting a single to lead off the seventh inning, something didn’t look right. Jimenez was then forced to run from first to third on a Gavin Sheets double and gingerly shuffled to third instead. Pedro Grifol came out of the dugout to check on him at third base, but Jimenez insisted on staying in the game despite appearing to be in some discomfort.
Jimenez told the Sun-Times after the game that he felt some soreness in his hamstring during the game, something he didn’t experience in Arizona in the days leading into his first game back. With a three-game series against the Dodgers set to begin on Monday, the White Sox may be inclined to rest Jimenez for a couple of games.
Sunday marked the 27-year-old’s second return from an IL stint this season. A left adductor strain kept him out of the lineup from April 2-15. With a $16.5 million club option looming at the end of the season, Jimenez is doing his best to prove his value with the club. But the results simply haven’t been there.
In his first 150 plate appearances this season he is slashing .232/.287/.377 with five home runs, 12 BRIs, and an 88 OPS+. The frustration is mounting for Jimenez he is trying his best to stay on the field. However, his body is failing him. He has been on the IL eight different times in his career and has missed time for over 20 different injuries.
