Early Returns On The White Sox Deadline Are Looking Good

-

The White Sox had an extremely busy deadline, as they moved six players on their major league team, three of which came in the same trade. While the jury is still out on whether Getz made the proper moves, the returns of the players received in this trade are looking good so far, and that is half the battle. While it is way too early to declare any of these trades a win, it is encouraging to see them playing well to start off their careers with the White Sox.

The player that has been playing the best since the trade is William Bergolla, who was acquired in the Tanner Banks trade.

Since the trade, Bergolla is hitting .367 with an impressive .474 OBP. In just 10 games, he has five RBIs, seven stolen bases, and has the same amount of walks to strikeouts. While it is a small sample size, it is encouraging to see Bergolla playing well.

While he is still just 19, he is likely to finish the season out with A+ Winston-Salem, but he could make his way to AA as a 20 year old in 2025.

Trey McGough, acquired in the Eloy Jimenez trade, is also turning heads, as he has not allowed any runs since he has put on a Charlotte Knights uniform.

In six innings for the Knights, McGough has given up just one hit, has struck out six batters, and walked just one. This is about as dominant of a start one could have and he should be among the players called up in September, if not sooner.

The other players acquired have been playing well, but nothing to write home about. Jeral Perez has hit .237 with the Cannon Ballers since the trade, but he is still talking walks and has hit the ball hard.

Jarold Rosado, acquired in the Paul DeJong trade, has been showing his strikeout stuff, as he has 6 strikeouts in 3.2 innings.

One slightly tough outing inflated his ERA to 4, but other than that, he’s looked very good. He could see a promotion to AA sooner rather than later.

While Miguel Vargas, the crown jewel of the deadline, hasn’t been hitting well, he has shown the ability to consistently take walks. He has walked seven times in just 46 plate appearances, which fantastic by White Sox standards.

The bat will start to come around as he hasn’t even had a full season of major league at-bats yet. Hopefully putting him lower in the order will take some pressure off Vargas.

Some consider Vargas to be the best player/prospect to be acquired at the deadline, as he is one season removed from being a consensus top-40 prospect. Time will only tell, but he will get every opportunity with the White Sox.

While there is a valid criticism that Getz should have done and gotten more at the deadline, it is nice to see some of the players looking like they could be good major leaguers for the White Sox.
