Dallas Keuchel Doesn’t Hold Back, Calls Out Teammates

-

The Chicago White Sox fell to the Detroit Tigers on Monday night, losing 5 to 1. The injuries continued to pile up as the Sox have now lost four of their last five games. Following the loss, Dallas Keuchel gave a very honest and raw post game presser regarding his team’s lack-luster performance.

“We’ve got some guys coming out and taking professional at-bats, being professional on the mound and doing what it takes to win and we’ve got some guys going through the motions. So we need to clean a lot of things up.”

Keuchel is right. There are only 60 games this season. There is no time to simply go through the motions.

Was this a shot at Rick Renteria?

When I first heard Keuchel say this, I immediately thought of Renteria. This kind of statement can easily be seen as a direct correlation to your manager. In fact, I believe it’s a huge indictment. This is what happens when the manager doesn’t hold players accountable. Leaders are then forced to have to step up. Enter Dallas Keuchel. However, this shouldn’t be the case. The manager should be the one to set the tone. The Sox are very talented but one has to ask, is Renteria the guy who should be leading this young roster? In my opinion, the club needs to go in a different direction. Very similar to what the Bulls should do with Boylen. Send them both packing. Nonetheless, I do appreciate this quote a lot. There is just something about players keeping it real. Hopefully, Keuchel’s words can permeate throughout the locker room as the Sox could desperately use a wake-up call as there’s not a lot of room for error in a shortened season.
