We were recording the last Pinwheels And Ivy Podcast of 2022 Wednesday night and I can’t remember exactly how this came up, probably me being a dick, and asking about White Sox play-by-play man Jason Benetti and his contract status with the team heading into 2023. Then, I remembered that his partner in the White Sox TV booth Steve Stone also hasn’t signed a new contract. Hmmm, could the White Sox have a new TV broadcast duo in 2023?
Now, to be clear, we know pretty much next to nothing about Benetti’s and Stone’s negotiations with the White Sox and both have publicly said this year that they expect to remain with the White Sox.
Back in the summer, Benetti left ESPN and signed a new broadcasting deal with FOX. He also addressed his future with the White Sox talking to The Athletic.
Via The Athletic.
Benetti has not officially signed a new contract with the White Sox that extends beyond this year but said he feels confident he’ll be with the team for some time. (The White Sox were kept abreast of Benetti’s negotiations with Fox.)
So yeah, we were just thinking out loud and wondering what a new White Sox TV booth would be IF for whatever reason Benetti and Stone do not come back next season. Again! Not saying that’s the case. Maybe their new deals are announced the very first week of January just like Stone’s previous contract renewal was announced in early January 2020.
But anyway, could you imagine a Len Kasper and A.J. Pierzynski TV booth? Maybe???
Get crazy folks, let us know who you think could be the new White Sox TV announcers in 2023 in this hypothetical.
UPDATE
OK, they’re back.
We also talked about the Carlos Correa situation with the New York Mets. At this point it seems like they kind of have to work something out and considering there has not been much noise with any other specific team I am inclined to think Correa and the Mets will eventually agree on a deal. What a mess that’s turned into, though.
We answered listener questions too, spanning from our thoughts on all-time overrated and underrated MLB players, our favorite City Connect uniforms and hats, and what teams could have cool-looking ones, oh and even before that Jean Segura signed with the Miami Marlins. There goes another second base option for the White Sox. It basically looks like the White Sox will be going with their internal options at that position in 2023.
There was also a segment covering our favorite movies, TV and music from 2022, some podcast recommendations and some other random stuff. Give us a listen on your favorite podcast platform and make sure check us out on YouTube, too. Subscribe. Thanks for tuning in.
It’s past time for Jason and Stone to move on. Many times on TV games I watch in mute. Bring on Kasper and Pierzynski. The only good thing about Jason is when he does football games.
Kasper is an excellent play by play man, truly one of the best in baseball. When he is with Stone he raises Stone’s game as well. Regrettably, I keep the games on mute after the first inning – unless Kasper is calling it – then I enjoy the audio for all 9 innings.
I like Jason but Steve’s time in the booth is long over. He is getting stale. Bring Len and AJ together this would make a good broadcast team and will bring creativity to the booth
Please let Jason be gone. I can’t stand trying to watch the games and have to hear him try to be funny. It’s bad enough watching this team lose in spectacular fashion. I don’t need his voice making it even worse
