When the White Sox opted to leave Chase Meidroth off the Opening Day roster, the decision was met with some skepticism. Now, nearly ten games into the season, Meidroth continues to make a strong case that he belongs in the big leagues.
The White Sox No. 8-ranked prospect struggled in Spring Training, going 6-for-50 in Cactus League action. However, Meidroth continues to show that he has nothing left to prove at the minor league level. Since joining the White Sox organization, Meidroth has slashed .333/.500/.750 with three homers and four RBIs in his first seven games with the Charlotte Knights.
His latest homer came via a two-run shot against Norfolk on Sunday. It was part of a 3-for-3 day at the plate that also included two RBIs, two walks, and four runs scored to help the Knights complete a 9-8 comeback.

It’s a continuation of what the 23-year-old showed last season when he posted the lowest chase rate in Triple-A while providing solid infield defense. In 558 plate appearances with the Worcester Red Sox, Meidroth led the Triple-A International League with a .437 on-base percentage, an impressive feat in just his second professional season. It was a sequel to what he did during his first professional season when he owned a .408 OBP in Double-A Portland, which was the highest mark in the Boston Red Sox farm system.
Meanwhile, back at the MLB level, the White Sox continue to trot out Jacob Amaya, who has struggled offensively since joining the White Sox late last season. In 30 games with the White Sox, Amaya owns a -0.3 WAR with a .161 batting average in 92 plate appearances. He has only reached base twice this season.
Amaya has no long-term future with the team and is simply holding a spot until Meidroth or Colson Montgomery are ready for a call-up. However, with the White Sox on a five-game skid and their offense ranking 25th in MLB, injecting some youth into the lineup could provide the spark they desperately need.
