With the Winter Meetings on the horizon, trade talks are likely to heat up. These talks will include Garrett Crochet, as his name has been floated in trade rumors all offseason. However, those rumors just picked up more steam, as Jon Morosi specifically noted two teams that could trade for Crochet.
. @MLB trade market update:
The Cubs and Reds are among the viable candidates to acquire White Sox ace Garrett Crochet.
Of note, the Cubs and White Sox have made 4 trades since 2017, beginning with the José Quintana deal. @MLBNetwork

One of the teams Morosi mentions is the Cincinnati Reds, who haven’t been mentioned very much, if at all, in connection with Garrett Crochet. This makes it even more curious that Morosi ties them to Crochet, as they could be preparing a strong offer to land Crochet.
It’s been no secret that Chris Getz wants position players prospects in a deal for Crochet, so let’s take a look at what the Reds could offer in a Garrett Crochet trade.
According to the MLB Pipeline Top-100 Prospects List, the Reds have five top-100 prospects. This is a solid number, however their top two prospects are pitchers. This isn’t exactly what the White Sox are looking for, but they do have three prospects ranked from 65-93 on the list that are position players.
Ranked at 65 is shortstop Edwin Arroyo, who made it to AA to end the year. Overall, he slashed .252/.324/.433 with 13 homeruns, 60 RBIs, and 29 stolen bases.

At 76 is infielder Sal Stewart, who spent 2024 at A+ in the Reds organization. He slashed .279/.391/.454 with eight homeruns, 46 RBIs, and 10 stolen bases. He also walked 50 times to just 57 strikeouts, which is a very good ratio.

Lastly, at 93 is Cam Collier, the son of Lou Collier. He also played the full year at A+, where he slashed .248/.355./.443, but hit 20 homeruns and had 74 RBIs.

All three of these prospects are very intriguing and could offer the White Sox some upside in the lower minor leagues. However, I’m not sure if a combination of these players would be enough for the White Sox to consider a trade, as they likely want close to major league ready talent, which at this point, none of the listed players are.
It is also likely that Chris Getz would want a big name as the centerpeice in the deal, which the Reds wouldn’t be able to offer. They do have plenty of younger and promising hitters already in the major leagues, but there have been reports that Getz wants prospects who have not yet debuted.
If the Reds offered a combination of the prospects listed, the White Sox could be intrigued, especially if they add a few more from their top-10 overall prospects. But, all things considered, I don’t see a clear path to a trade with the Reds, as there is with the Chicago Cubs.
I enjoy these articles. Trades, prospects etc. But Sure am hoping for better than mid-60,70 nd barely in top 100 for Crochet! Unrealistic?
