The Cubs weren’t able to finish off a sweep on Wednesday, losing their series finale 6-2 against the Rangers. Shōta Imanaga was hit hard and Tyler Mahle kept the Cubs offense in check over seven innings. It was a rather drama-free game, except for one viral moment that happened in the stands and oh boy did it have a shocking twist at the end.
During Seiya Suzuki’s sixth-inning at-bat, two fans sitting behind home plate were caught on camera sharing a hot dog. It made for a perfect meme and seemed like a funny and wholesome moment between a couple at Wrigley Field.

This was just the start of some reality-TV like drama because it turns out that those two aren’t a couple at all, not even on a date.
During the game, Cubs play-by-play announcer Jon Sciambi joked how the two were complete strangers and had just met that day. Well, it turns out that not only was that true, but one of the two is actually in a serious relationship.
Yes, this is stupid gossip, but you know who made it worse? How about those two fans agreeing to go on 670 The Score’s afternoon show following the Cubs game on Wednesday and bringing even more attention to the moment.
On the Spiegel & Holmes Show, Tristan and Robbie said they did not know each other, and that Tristan actually has a boyfriend who as you might have guessed wasn’t pleased to see the viral hot dog moment.
“Yeah, I actually didn’t know that this was Going To go viral, so my boyfriend at home is going to be pretty upset about it.”
She also shared the detail that they later switched to popcorn and were playfully throwing it to each other. Innocent flirting or a step too far here?
The long pauses by Spiegel and Holmes are perfect in this clip.
The "hot dog couple" at Wrigley Field today joined @SpiegsAndHolmes to share their story.

They maintain they didn't know each other before today, and there might be a significant other at home who's annoyed.
"It was just a friendly hot dog split." pic.twitter.com/fUYHLi1ded
So, what do you think? Is this real? Fake? Do they actually know each other? Is it too good to be true? Will this be the start of a new romance????
Going in for the third shared bite of the hot dog and then revealing on Chicago radio that you have an angry boyfriend at home is messy work pic.twitter.com/HCKptSC84E

Oh and despite the loss the Cubs remain in first place with a 9-6 record. Pretty damn good, considering the tough opponents through the first couple weeks of the regular season. They’ll finish out April with an even more difficult stretch of games that includes an upcoming six-game road trip against the Dodgers and Padres.
April is one hell of a stretch. I actually saw the act live in yesterday’s game. Even cooler with this backstory!!! Nice job Aldo.
