The Chicago Cubs Are Still In Need Of A Lefty Bat

-

The Chicago Cubs lineup right now is very righty heavy.

You have guys like Wilson Contreras, Patrick Wisdom, newly signed Seiya Suzuki, Frank Schwindel, Clint Frazier, Nick Madrigal, and Andrelton Simmons.

The Chicago Cubs only have two lefties currently in the lineup.

Rafael Ortega and Jason Heyward might become a bench bat with the Suzuki signing.

Here are some lefties they should consider in free agency or through the trade market.

Freddie Freeman Should Be A Chicago Cub

You thought I wasn’t going to go there and mention one of the best remaining free agents in Freddie Freeman, didn’t you?

Well, you’re wrong.

Freddie Freeman in a Cubs jersey needs to happen.

It was reported that Freemen recently rejected an offer from the Atlanta Braves of 5-years, $135M offer.

Also was reported that Freeman could be seeking close to a 6-year deal worth around $200M.

A 6-year deal would take Freeman to age 38, and with the DH in the NL, you can keep his bat in the lineup.

Freeman is an MVP, 5-time All-Star, a Gold Glove winner, and 3-time Silver Slugger.

In his last season in Atlanta, Freeman slashed .300/.393/.503/.896 in 695 plate appearances.

His wRC+ was 135 with a BABIP of .321. His K% was 15.4 and BB% was 12.2.

Cubs fans were upset to see Anthony Rizzo go back to the Yankees, but Freeman would be the perfect replacement. Go get Freeman Jed Hoyer and Carter Hawkins, do it!

The Chicago Cubs Need To Acquire Eric Hosmer From The Padres

Eric Hosmer signed an 8-year, $144M extension with the Padres in 2018, that runs through 2025, and the Padres are looking to get out of the contract and trade him.

Hosmer is owed $21M this year and in 2023 and $13M in 2024 and 2025.

He wouldn’t be the ideal lefty bat option for the Cubs, but if it means the Padres are willing to send a top prospect with Hosmer for someone to talk the contract, the Cubs need to be in on it.

In 2021, Hosmer slashed .269/.337/.395/.732 in 565 plate appearances, with a BABIP of .313, a wRC+ of 102, K % was 17.5, and he had a BB% of 8.5.

If the Padres are willing to let go of Robert Hassell III or Luis Campusano, you take it Cubs!

Joc Pederson Reunion With The Cubs?

Joc Pederson and the swag would be welcomed back into Wrigley Field to play DH for the Cubs.

Last year, he played for the Cubs and slashed .230/.300/.418/.718, before moving to the Atlanta Braves for prospect Bryce Ball.

Pederson turned around his season just a little bit with the Braves and ended up slashing .249/.325/.428/.752 and the Braves ended up winning the world series.

Give Joc a 1-year deal Jed and Carter!
