Just an absolutely pathetic piece of shit bullpen the Cubs got this year, huh? Justin Steele pitches his heart out once again, goes into the 8th inning and holds the Giants to only 2 runs and yet the Cubs can’t find two fucking pitchers that can hold the lead in the ninth inning? Hector Neris is finally out as the closer, but it doesn’t seem to matter because the Cubs bullpen blew another game Monday night.
Colten Brewer, who picked up his first save last week at Wrigley Field against the Giants, was asked to start the ninth inning with the Cubs leading 4-2, but he was only able to get one out after allowing a bloop double to center, bunt single and a sac-fly that cut the lead to 4-3. Then, Craig Counsell went to veteran lefty Drew Smyly and he was also ass.
Smyly gave up a single and then walked Nick Ahmed, the No. 9 hitter in the Giants lineup that loaded the bases. San Francisco hit another sac-fly to tie the game and then after an intentional walk the Giants won it with a walk-off walk.
Smyly threw 12 total pitches after coming in with a runner at first base and one out. He only threw four strikes. Great. Fucking great.

That’s now 17 blown saves by the bullpen this year, second most in MLB. That’s nearly a quarter of the team’s games so far in 2024.
Oh and let’s not forget the horseshit offense either. Four runs on Monday night, when they had all the chances in the world to blow out the Giants.

5th Inning – Actually scored 3 runs, but couldn’t add anymore with 2nd and 3rd, 1 out

Why is this a surprise?? Hoyer knew we needed a top closer after last season. I think it’s like 18 run one games we lost. Hell, I’ll be the closer for free, I can blow saves with the best of them! 😂
