Finally! Pete Crow-Armstrong is changing his jersey number and it’s all thanks to Jed Hoyer.
On Friday, the Cubs announced that Crow-Armstrong will now wear No. 4, which was last worn by Alexander Canario, who was just designated for assignment on Thursday. You can read more about Canario’s departure here.

Anyway, PCA has been wearing No. 52 since making his MLB debut on Sept. 11, 2023. I, like many Cubs fans, have always felt that it just didn’t seem right that a guy like PCA, a speedy player, was wearing a high number like he was.
And guess what, Jed Hoyer was busting his balls about it too. PCA told Marquee Sports Network that he’s changing his number for a few reasons one of which includes losing a bet to Hoyer shooting hoops.
Via Marquee Sports Network.
“Jed thought I needed a fast guy number and Jed’s really good about coming down and for lack of a better term being one of the guys. So, I’ve appreciated his openness to my shenanigans, my hair, all that stuff, so I’ve appreciated that relationship. We were outside shooting hoops before stretch and he came over and was like talking some crap like, hey you’re wearing a lineman’s number and all this stuff. So, he said if I make this shot you have to change your number and I wasn’t gonna say no to the boss. I went with it and he sunk it.”

Thank you, Jed! Now, use that strategy to convince Tom Ricketts to write a blank check for Kyle Tucker’s extension.
Let’s GOOOO!
