There is no better microcosm to show the overall struggles of the 2020 Cubs offense than seeing just how bad Javier Báez has been.
And yeah, it’s been as bad as you thought. How about the fifth worst offense since Aug. 1.
Nope, that's not a typo. Since Aug. 1, the Cubs have an 86 wRC+, 26th in baseball. Teams that have been better during that span: Orioles, Marlins, Royals, Tigers and Mariners. https://t.co/gdTXh5t6Fv

After their second straight loss to the Pirates Wednesday night, Báez’s wRC+ dropped to 52, tied for last in MLB. His wOBA is now at .249.
We’re now talking about one of the worst, if not, the worst qualified hitter in MLB so far in 2020.
Javy Baez now ranks dead last among qualified hitters in wOBA (.249), and is tied for last in wRC+ (52).
Summarized: among MLB regulars, he has been the worst-ish hitter this season.

Oh, and add lowest OPS to the list
Javier Baez (.581) has overtaken Adalberto Mondesi (.583) for the very worst OPS among batting title qualifiers this year.

Báez has been awful. The Cubs offense has been awful. The offense will probably be awful next week in the playoffs, too.
