Ian Happ Caps Off Another Instant Classic at Wrigley Field

-

They did it again. They fucking did it again! Ian Happ capped yet another classic at Wrigley Field by walking off the Dodgers in the 10th inning, completing the Cubs comeback to win 11-10 Tuesday night. The Cubs offense was able to bail out poor defense and more shakiness from the bullpen, erasing a 10-7 deficit with home runs by Kyle Tucker and Miguel Amaya before Happ hit the game-winner on the first pitch he saw in the bottom of the 10th.

This was the seventh time so far this season that the Cubs scored 10 or more runs in a game. No other team has done it more than three times.

Happ finished the game by going 4-for-5 from the leadoff spot. One of his hits came on a slow chopper that glanced off the glove of Dodgers reliever Alex Vesia in the eighth inning.

With Happ on first base Tucker blasted a two-run homer that brought the Cubs within one run of the Dodgers, who had taken a 10-7 lead after scoring five runs in the seventh.

We’ll say it again, fuck the Ricketts if Kyle Tucker isn’t re-signed.

Then, in the bottom of the ninth inning with two outs, Miguel Amaya tied the game with a solo home run that barely snuck into the left field basket against Dodgers closer Tanner Scott.

Porter Hodge retired the side in order in the top of the 10th, including a crucial strikeout of Max Muncy, who was at the plate with one out and Tommy Edman at third base.

Oh and although the seventh inning was a disaster, how about a huge tip of the cap to Gavin Hollowell. The right-handed reliever was called up from Triple-A earlier on Tuesday and in his season debut Hollowell tossed two shutout innings that allowed the Cubs offense to get back into the game.

Without Hollowell’s effort there is no comeback to speak of Tuesday night at Wrigley.
