David Bote was born and grew up in Colorado. He made his MLB debut against the Rockies in 2018 and got his first hit against them in Colorado. On Wednesday night, Bote had the best game of his career against the Rockies too. So good that it matched “The Sandberg Game.”
Bote had a perfect night at the plate, going 4-for-4, with a home run and a career high seven RBIs. His three-run homer in the fifth broke a scoreless tie.
And once again, Bote just kept coming up with big hits in big spots. After homering to left with two on and two outs, he added to a 5-3 lead with another two-out hit, driving in three runs with a double in the sixth.
Then, Bote drove in his seventh run with another two-out hit in the eighth. What a night.
The last Cubs second baseman to have seven RBIs in a game? Ryne Sandberg against the Cardinals. Maybe you remember that game from 1984.
So, David Bote is obviously going to go on and win the MVP this year. Nice.
Bote’s been incredible in the past few weeks after being really bad in late April and early May.
The versatile infielder is now up to .289/.363/.503, with seven home runs, 30 RBIs, 126 wRC+ and .364 wOBA. Pretty damn good.
