Cubs Release Veteran Reliever

-

Earlier this season the Cubs signed veteran reliever Kelvin Herrera, who started the year with the White Sox and was eventually DFA’d. It was a minor league signing by the Cubs and no one really expected Herrera to suddenly improve after some awful numbers and declining velocity, so it came as no surprise that the right-hander was let go on Wednesday by the Cubs as well.

Herrera was at the South Bend training site and following his release the Cubs’ player pool increased to 57.

Could it be that another veteran right-handed reliever will take Herrera’s place?

The Reds DFA’d Pedro Strop today, so maybe the Cubs will bring him back and see if anything is left in the tank?
