At the very least, if the Cubs sign Jacoby Ellsbury to a minor league deal, then we can bet on who stays healthier throughout spring training between him and Brandon Morrow.
Obviously signing a dude who hasn’t played since 2017 because of injuries isn’t be something fans should be pining for, but c’mon at this point, why the hell not. Who doesn’t like a comeback story and if it doesn’t work out, then you just let Ellsbury go.
Right now, the Cubs are considering signing the center fielder, trying to see if he’s interested in signing a minor league deal with them according to Jon Heyman.
Ellsbury is now 36-years-old and well, the left-handed hitter hasn’t really been that good since 2014. But what the hell, sign all the minor league deals and see if any of these guys can contribute anything positive throughout the season.
Hell, maybe he can talk Albert Almora Jr. into taking more walks. Can’t be much worse leading off than Albert was last year.
