Gambling Problem Or Competitive Problem?

-

The Last Dance has given NBA fans around the world an inside look into the Bulls dynasty as well as Michael Jordan’s life. One topic that is touched on heavily in the most recent episode is Jordan’s gambling habits. Whether it be a large wager in a golf game or betting a security guard who can get a quarter closest to the wall, Jordan enjoyed gambling. This was something that he was asked about and his response was pure perfection.

Jordan insisted that gambling was something that he could stop doing and that it was merely a hobby. One scene showed that Jordan could gamble on pretty much anything. Sites like the online casino UK are making it even easier to wager on games these days. Heading into a game at the United Center Michael made a bet with his personal security guard John Wozniak.

Wozniak beat Michael’s quarter toss on his first throw and hit him with the shoulder shrug celebration. Wozniak became an overnight Twitter sensation after this clip aired. Many claimed he was the only one who was able to dethrone Jordan during his historic championship runs.

Did Jordan actually have a gambling problem?

There are a lot of MJ betting stories out there that show just how much he enjoys gambling. Notably, there were rumors that Michael’s first retirement was a “secret suspension” from the NBA due to gambling. Seeing the clip of the quarter bet shows how competitive Michael was. He wanted to win and always thought he could beat his competition. Michael didn’t know if Wozniak was an expert at throwing quarters he just wanted to compete. He wanted to dominate anyone he competed against and there needed to be something at stake for people to challenge the GOAT.

Jordan was such a fierce competitor that everything he did had to have something at stake. In true competitive spirit, Michael wanted his competitor at their best. Sometimes that requires something to be at stake. This was Michael’s way of getting people to play at their highest competitive level.

Any way you slice it MJ is a competitor and he wants to win at all costs. It doesn’t matter what the competition is he wants to win, and he wants to take something from you. If you ever get to spend time with MJ be sure to have some cash on you.
