Kane spoke highly of the three-time Stanley Cup champion during an interview with NBC Sports Chicago.
Former Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Sharp has flourished in his first two years as a broadcaster for NBC Sports since officially retiring from the NHL after the 2017-18 season. The former All-Star Game MVP and Most Beautiful Chicagoans’ Cover Boy has smoothly transitioned into one of the top television analysts in hockey. What can’t this guy do?
Well, according to Blackhawks superstar and former teammate Patrick Kane, Sharp has the proficiency to succeed in a front-office role as well. Kane talked about Sharp and his potential as a scout or advisor with NBC Sports Chicago back in January.
“I don’t know if we really expected him to [become a broadcaster] to be honest with you,” Kane said. “I thought maybe he’d be trying to get in with the team somewhere whether it was scouting or trying to get into the front office. I could see him doing that even to this day. Maybe that’s a stepping stone for him maybe in the future. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him in the front office at some point because I think he’s pretty good at scouting players and knowing a lot about the league too.”
Sharp hasn’t made any comments to suggest that he wants to leave NBC Sports, but after John McDonough, Blackhawks team president was fired on Apr. 27, there have been rumors swirling around about the possibility of yet another reunion.
If Sharp were to take on a front-office role with the Blackhawks, he would join former teammates Colin Fraser (amateur scout), Brian Campbell (development coach), Sheldon Brookbank (assistant coach), and Chris Kunitz (player development advisor) in the organization.
