Bryan Bickell’s battle with MS and his return to hockey have been well-documented. The disease forced Bickell into retirement but it hasn’t stopped him from being a hero.
The NHL chose to honor Bicks for his perseverance at the NHL awards tonight. Part of that honor was a video tribute that will bring the toughest of men to tears.
After the video highlighted Bickell’s fight to come back, he made a profound statement. “There’s a hockey life and a life after hockey. I have no regrets.”
He now has time to spend with his daughters, hang out on his boat back in Canada and raise awareness for MS.
Bickell along with his wife Amanda, followed the video with a speech to the crowd in attendance. The two of them could barely keep it together but found the time to thank the Chicago Blackhawks. I’m sure we’ll see Bicks back in Chicago one day for “One More Shift.”
